June 2023 highly detailed Jellyfish Sprite

Red sprites are rarely captured upper atmospheric phenomena found above strong lightning strikes. Since their discovery in 1989, we have been slowly peeling away at their mystery with each new capture.

I have been shooting sprites since 2017, and this is one of my most detailed captures to date. A uniquely massive and complex specimen over Oklahoma, with many interesting features attributed to the physics of the lightning below.
